Marion mahoney Griffin & Walter Burley GriffinNear where I live I often drive by some homes that catch my eye. There is sort of a homogeneity of residential design around here. These homes stand out.
With some research I learned that the neighborhood was to be a planned neighborhood by the outstanding architects - Marion Mahoney Griffin and her husband Walter Burley Griffin. My guess is that their plan was stopped at a certain point as their homes are sprinkled here and there but are not the majority in the neighborhood. Cool story right? Not really exciting though...until you realize the dynamic couple won a world-wide competition to design the capital of Australia, Canberra. To an architect that is like winning the Masters, if it was only held once. After many years and many commissions in Australia the couple was awarded another series of commissions throughout Lucknow, India. Their work speaks for itself & you should go read more about them and enjoy their designs. I just wanted to list the homes that I know of near me that they did in case you are nearby and want to see them. Please respect the current homeowners however and give them their privacy. Thank you!
